Help

Searching

The site makes use of freetext intuitive syntax which matches the meaning and not the exact wording of the complete words in the search condition. The search facility matches plurals and inflectional forms of words. Multiple words are considered with "OR". Combined words search is more exact and will usually narrow down the results, but not always. List by RANK allows the server to look at the number of times a specific keyword occurs. See more about searching.

Logging-in, Editing Resources, Case Studies, Lesson Plans, Technical and Reference items and Adding/Editing Support Files

Go to 'My Admin' to edit items after they have been approved. Log-in from 'Add to Site'.

If you can't edit a resource, case study, lesson plan or technical and reference item you have added

It has probably not been approved yet.

Uploading Support Files

Using the HTTP protocol it may take a few minutes to upload large support files. Don't use the browsers 'back' or 'forward' buttons whilst the upload is in progress. When the upload is complete click on the link to register the uploaded file. There is a 30MB limit on file upload.

Adding Digital Media

MoLeTV

Upload AVI, MP4, Windows Media and Quicktime media to MoLeTV (at www.moletv.org.uk). Media will be converted to Adobe Flash Video, Windows Media (.wmv), MP4 and 3GP formats and will be available for multi-format download so it can be viewed on mobile devices. You can link to or embed from MoLeTV in your virtual learning environment (VLE) or website including items you add to MoLeSHARE.

Clicking on the player icon on MoLeTV (far right at the foot of the player) allows the movie to be played in full screen mode which may be useful in the classroom.

MoLeTV can also be viewed on the iPODTouch and iPHONE3G by going to www.moletv.tv (this version of MoLeTV will not work in standard computer browsers).

Playing Digital Media

Whilst media items from MoLeTV stream, media using WMV, MP4 etc players on this site do not. It may take a few moments before the media starts to play.

Images

Images (JPGs and GIFs) are uploaded 'as is'. In some cases these may be large dimensions - as all material can be re-purposed you can download and re-size the images as necessary. On a PC 'Paint Shop Pro' will do this for you. PhotoStory will compile images into a learning activity and allow you to add music and narration and save the activity as a Windows Media File (WMV) which can be uploaded (and converted) to MoLeTV.

Screen Resolution

This website should be viewed at 1024 x 768 resolution or greater (preferably, 1280x1024).

The website has been tested in IE6, IE7, IE8, Firefox, Google Chrome and Safari. I hate to say it but for player controls to show in the WMV/MP4 video players it is probably better to use IE.

Permissions

The browser may request installation of Active-X controls when using the video players. These should be allowed there is no cause for concern. JavaScript and Adobe Flash Player 8+ is also required for this site. You should be prompted for installation of a Flash Player if it is not installed.

W3C and Accessibility

The site has been validated against w3.org for XHTML Transitional. However, because the site uses a content management system with information input from users some pages may break validation. The pages are checked from time to time and corrected as necessary.

Alternative text sizes and a 'linear' view are available.

RSS feedsRSS Feeds and Podcasts on Moleshare and MoLeTV

  • Drag the orange "RSS" button (XML file) into your News Reader
    • An RSS news reader (news aggregator) is an application you run on your own computer which can request and store the content from RSS feeds. Each time a new example is published, your computer can alert you.
  • Cut and paste the URL of the RSS feed into your News Reader

Site Issues

An issue where some browsers crash when viewing QuickTime movies through IE6 is being investigated.
Status: unresolved (only applies to some users).
