Back Safety | |
| This episode of learning looks at back safety. It contains a pre-test to assess the users knowledge and provoke thought in the subject matter. There is a section on back injuries and the mechanisms of the back. Safe manual handling is demonstrated (lifting, pushing and pulling and twisting). A self check at the end appraises the students knowledge and provides them with an activity to create a safe lifting notice for their workplace.

Padstow Seafood School | |
| Launceston College has a combined bid with the FE provider Truro College. Learners were invited to participate in a learning project at the renowned Padstow Seafood School owned by local entrepreneur Rick Stein. The learning project consisted of a practical day of food preparation, hotel and administration skills at the Seafood School, St Petrocs Hotel and the famous Rick Stein Fish and Chip Shop. The students studying for a BTEC First Diploma in Hospitality prepared a presentation about the opportunities for employment in the Hospitality industry locally. The project identified the range of roles available with the Stein group of companies and outlined the main job roles within each job researched. The Omnias used enabled the students to record details (auditory and visually) during the day whilst using their mobile office software to write up their findings. Plumbing with PSPs | |
| At Bridgwater College this case study was one component of a number of different projects, these included the use of a variety of mobile devices including iPhones, PSP’s, Nintendo DS’s and mobile phones. The projects varied across a varied curriculum range that included entry level, Level 1 and 2 for Train2Gain, NVQ and Level 3 A level students.
The range of different elements of the project allowed Bridgwater College to experience and develop a variety of materials and to repurpose existing materials that can work with mobile technologies. In addition, the different groups allowed Bridgwater to investigate the effect that mobile technologies has on progression, success and retention.
